Italians are heading to the voting booths on September 25th to vote in a snap election called following the resignation of Mario Draghi in July. Program Manager Teresa Coratella from the European Council of Foreign Relations will join us from Rome to discuss likely outcomes of the election and how the change of government will affect both Italian and European politics.

We will take stock of the achievements of the out-going rainbow coalition, and discuss the challenges faced by the in-coming government both with regards to the reform agenda and the state of the Italian economy. Further, we will discuss how the change of government might impact the ongoing revision of the EU’s fiscal framework and the Union's unity vis-a-vis Russia.

While a right-wing coalition, consisting of the Italian Brotherhood, Lega and Forza Italy, is currently looking as a likely successor to Draghi’s coalition, nothing is settled in a country known for political turbulence.

Programme:

  • Foreword from Lykke, introducing the speakers
  • Conversation between Ditte and Teresa on the consequences of the Italian elections' different outcomes
  • Ditte rounds up the talk
